Oh god why did I see this movie.
The closest I have come to feeling this uncomfortable post-movie was when I saw District 13 but that was for completely different reasons. And the discomfort was much less pronounced.
I am one of those people who can’t stop thinking through discomfort, trying to find a way out the other end, but even after writing a sort-of essay (that may later appear as a blog post) about the problems I...

a dust of snow →
If you are a Young Wizards fan and interested in Dairine and/or Roshaun as characters at all and in the mood for something slightly melancholy and introspective and beautifully written, then you should go and read the wonderful Yuletide gift fic that I just received!
Title: a dust of snow Rating: T Pairing: Dairine/Roshaun (though if you are against this pairing might I add that it is...

If you are participating in the Yuletide...
…and you think you’ve requested something in a fandom I might possibly write for (Young Wizards and Leviathan seem to be the big ones for me this year, but I am sure there are others! like pretty much every 19th century English novel ever written!) then link me to your Yuletide letter in case I have spare time this evening for spreading some Yuletide Madness cheer!
Obligatory sentence...

Rec me some good books!
I already know which “serious” books I’m reading this winter break (and “serious” is in scare quotes because I don’t really believe in categorizing books like that), but I don’t have any plans for fun reading.
I am a strange reader. I hardly ever just “like” books. Either I dislike them, or I love them. The middle term is not...

He was so young when he left, he’s not quite thirteen when the war’s over, and he’s got his whole life ahead of him to interact with people who sometimes forget the Air Nomads used to be more than just the Avatar at all.
Does he try to sing songs, and realize that he doesn’t know the middle verse and there’s no one left to ask? I bet he goes back to...

Avatar: the Last Airbender fic recs?
So…have not really been liveblogging, since I’ve mostly just been watching this stuff straight through now that papers are all turned in and I don’t head home for another day or so! But the result of this is that I am nearing the end (oh no! what will I do!) and so you should leave some fic recs in my ask so that I will have a place to go once I have finished the series. I will...

A thought on waterbending
The human body is mostly water. Theoretically, doesn’t this mean that a waterbender could pretty much control someone’s body via their water molecules? Or at the very least kill them by suddenly pulling all of the water OUT of their body?
Suddenly Katara is looking even more deadly than usual.
ETA: Had this thought before watching “The Puppet Master,” have now finished...

Avatar 2x20, The Crossroads of Destiny
You know what I really need? Fic where post-Goliath Alek shows up somehow within this episode and gives Zuko a talking-to. Hopefully with Deryn’s help, so that after Alek tries and fails to make Zuko understand what’s going on, Deryn can punch him in the face and then scream THIS IS NOT YOUR DESTINY ZUKO YOUR DESTINY IS HAPPINESS AND SELF-ACCEPTANCE NOW STOP BEING SUCH A BUMRAG AND...

Starting the Avatar season 2 finale.
Why do I feel like this is going to result in CRYING and HEARTACHE and THE NEED FOR GREAT AMOUNTS OF CHOCOLATE?
But before that, here is what SHOULD happen:
Before Azula can so much as get within shouting distance of Zuko, Toph shows up and sucks her into the earth and LEAVES HER THERE. Maybe in the company of hungry animals or something, but whatever, I’m not picky.
Someone talks...

Truest of true things ever, and a really good comparison to show how ridiculous it is to assume gender for people you don’t know.

Avatar Aaaaaaaaargh.
Aaaaaaargh Avatar why are you doing this to me. I am sorry, after staying up all night to finish a paper that seemed good yesterday before I realized at 10pm that actually the last four pages made no sense, and turning in said paper at 10am, I really just needed happy fuzzy adorable flying things, BUT NO YOU HAD TO GO THROW ALL THE FEELINGS AT ME. (More about “Tales of Ba Sing Se,”...

Okay, now I have a motivation to finish this...
Which is to say: not gonna read the “bonus chapter” OR look at the art reveal until I have managed to wrangle the last four pages of this paper into something that passes for organization.

Argh Zuko you were such a whiny little shit at first, I should not be falling for your character arc just because you have cut off your ridiculous ponytail and are conflicted about your part in this war and suddenly so much more complex than I thought you were! Did you writers know all this about you from the beginning and then do things like this to me simply because they wanted me to go through...

Final Paper #1 done and submitted!
Not on par with my standards, but it’ll do. Paper #2 due on Thursday, still no first draft, gonna get to work on that next. Paper #3 due on Friday, long and detailed first/second draft with professor feedback, only said professor wasn’t present at office hours she told me she’d scheduled and I don’t want to go through final rewrite before hashing out some of my less-formed...

I will never stop shipping Dairine and Roshaun.
File this under “things that need to be reblogged because they are true.” I just have a thing for doofy princes and confident ladies butting heads and changing each others’ perspectives and falling in looooooove in the process (see also Deryn and Alek of Leviathan, and sort of Elizabeth and Darcy in...

So about that Avatar liveblogging...
…I may in fact be into season 2, despite not having written about most of season 1. I also may blame this for any less-than-fabulous grades on my seminar papers. I also may not care at all, because it’s awesome.
So rather than trying to recap my FEELINGS, feel free to ask me questions about first-season stuff and I will give you opinions and whatever.
Well.
After I finish watching...

Dear people who watch Avatar:
Does the first season end with a cliffhanger? I have two episodes left (!) and am thinking of watching them with dinner as a reward for (sort of) getting work done today, but I’ve also promised myself not to start Season 2 until after I have a working first draft of another paper! (Which at this rate could take a while.) I’d rather not watch the last two eps at all tonight if...

This would be the book that Mr. Collins reads aloud to the Bennet sisters when he visits, instead of the circulating library novel Lydia suggests. For those who might think this quote represents a crazy fringe element, think again: through significant...

Avatar liveblog continues!
“Liveblog” is probably a misnomer for this, since it’s way more like “things that I think of while watching but don’t actually write down until later, and with some kind of order.” But I’m not really reviewing episode by episode and (thus far) most of the commentary has the tendency toward incoherence associated with liveblogging, so. I already talked...
