Graduate student specializing in 18th century British literature with an emphasis on the novel. Lover of John Milton, Jane Austen, and Charlotte Bronte. (Yes, I know none of them published in the 18th century.) Occasional writer of lengthy fictions, seven-time NaNoWriMo participant and former Office of Letters and Light intern. Reader of much young adult and/or fantasy lit. Lifetime lover of Diane Duane's Young Wizards series, recently fanatic about Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan trilogy, blaming it all on Harry Potter. Wanderluster. Left my heart in London, reclaim it bit by bit through tea and Doctor Who and Sherlock and Downton Abbey. |
a) Who’s with me? :D
b) Who would actually want to help with the organizing (basically, co-organize the thing)?
c) Where should that be hosted? I know a lot of people have started using dreamwidth more than livejournal.
d) What dates are more convenient for you?
e) …I think those are my main concerns. Also, spread the word if you’d like, I suppose! I know it’s a small fandom, but I hope (or fear, since my relations with fandoms aren’t always the best) there will be a decent number of people interested in it because LADIES.
If I weren’t already organizing Young Wizards challenges and, you know, doing that whole grad school thing, I would totally help with organizing. As it is, even if I can’t organize, I can DEFINITELY participate! Really, for me, timing doesn’t matter. I will do this even if the deadline corresponds with my MA thesis deadline. Because these ladies are awesome and I care about them ridiculously lots.
One good place to advertise this might be the Clankwinists LJ comm? While Tumblr might be good for getting the word out/attracting a following, I find that LJ and DW are best for actually organizing and posting stuff like this. Perhaps creating a general Leviathan challenge comm through one of those sites wouldn’t be out of the question?
Also, I think it would be awesome if this ladyfest could encourage more than just fic, because one of the things I love most about this fandom is how multimedia it is and how talented its fans are! I would love to see more lady-centered fanart (is there a way to publicize this ladyfest on Deviantart?) and more lady-centered fanmixes and lady-centered meta and even podfics of lady-centered fic, because podfic seems to be the one thing no one’s really done in this fandom yet. (Is everyone else being kept from it for the same reason I am, namely, that I cannot do accents for the life of me and after listening to Alan Cumming’s brilliant narration of the audiobooks any kind of podfic without accents would seem sort of sacrilegious?)
*o* This is certainly more than encouraging! :DDD I am definitely going to use LJ or DW - though tumblr is the best for...
I would like to do this! But only if I could sign up on DW or AO3; I don’t use LJ anymore.
Oh gosh I would be— I would be 100% up for this, like dang, just give me a reason to write fic about these girls.
If I weren’t already organizing Young Wizards challenges and, you know, doing that whole grad school thing, I
