which I guess makes sense…

Since in the Young Wizards mythos Loki would be the Lone Power? (Well, the Lone Power would be Loki I think that phrasing makes more sense…)

I know DD recently said that she would fancast Benedict Cumberbatch as the Lone One (and I agree he’d be great for it), but after watching Thor and Avengers, I gotta say that NO ONE could do the Lone One’s redemption scene at the end of High Wizardry as well as Tom Hiddleston. NO ONE.

Man I love/hate/love those lines that just fall out onto the computer while you’re writing and are TOTALLY EFFING AWESOME.

(I mean. Mine are never that awesome. But still, the feeling is lovely.)

Also, am I the only one who sees “bar” in a YW context and immediately thinks of The Man in the Bar? No? Good. Because the first punchline I can come up with looks something like this:

The Lone Power, the Whisperer, and the Defender walk into a bar. The Doctor sees them coming, throws an assortment of strange things from his pocket onto the bar to cover his tab, grabs the forearm(s) of whichever companion(s) he’s with at the moment and says, “Run!”

She was gracious enough to leave the characters/pairings open-ended, so I decided to be gracious right back and do a Dairine/Roshaun mix.  Because I know she likes them.  Also because I maybe might have slightly come around to Dairine/Roshaun a wee little bit.  I still maintain that it would end in flames and tears, but they’d be better people for it, and I think they’d continue to be friends and allies, once they’d gotten a few years under their belts.  With that in mind, here’s the mix:

A couple of things:

1) This is lovely and perfect and I can totally get behind this concept of their potential future relationship. Like, they will NEVER be perfect together, they will have the most fucked up relationship in a lot of ways, and I love them and don’t want them to be unhappy but SO MUCH DRAMATIC TENSION, so I guess I do want it?

2) I am pretty sure that the second I read the phrase “flames and tears” I knew it needed to be the title for another fanmix or maybe for a fic (and maybe I will just have to get around to that strange hybrid fic/mix I started working on last summer about how Roshaun stays lost for too long and comes back changed and Dairine’s moved on and really this is the WORST POSSIBLE TIMING, but still, sparks).

Summary: When humanity goes to the stars, the Lone Power is there to hinder it. It is up to one wizard to make a choice that will change everything. For Caitlin, there is no choice. 

This was first written and posted for a fic challenge at dai_stiho in the lead-up to the last shuttle launch back in July. In my barrage of space shuttle feelings, it came back to mind and I re-read it. It’s just as beautiful as, and even more poignant than, I remembered it. I typically don’t go in for stories with original characters but this one just works. Read it, you will not be disappointed.

Long story short, I am trying to be diligent and work on this essay, but I need for there to be a light at the end of the tunnel! So leave me a character or pairing plus a short prompt (it can even be a single word) and I’ll write you a short little story.

I’ll write for any of the fandoms listed on my fandoms page, even if I haven’t written fic for them before. Broadly speaking I’m a multishipper, with the one exception being that Tom and Carl are wizard husbands and anyone who ships them with anyone else at any point after their first meeting is WRONG.

I’m actually weirdly wanting to try my hand at a Legend of Korra drabble, but I am anti-spoilers and don’t keep up with promotional material for the show (I just watch the eps when they air) so no asking for fic involving characters we haven’t met in the actual show yet!
